Travelling To Glasgow

Glasgow has two international airports (Glasgow International and Glasgow Prestwick) as well as being within easy reach of Edinburgh Airport. A list of airlines which fly to Glasgow can be found on the SeeGlasgow website. There are direct daily flights from the USA (from Philadelphia with US Air and from Newark with United) and to many European destinations, including low cost carriers such as Easyjet and Ryan Air. Glasgow is also connected by rail to the East and West Coast main-lines which provide 'fast' trains from London and has a long-distance coach station (Buchanan Bus Station).

From Glasgow international airport a taxi to the West End will cost approximately 20GBP. An alternative option is to take the 905 Citylink bus service (~5GBP) from the arport to the city centre (either to Buchanan Bus Station or Queen Street Station) from where the underground service can be taken to the West End (Buchanan Street underground to Hillhead station for 1.20GBP) or a taxi to the hotel will cost ~5GBP. An alternative bus service directly to the West end is the 747, which has stops at the Kelvingrove Museum and the Argyle Hotel.

From Glasgow Prestwick Airport there is a regular rail service to Glasgow Central Station which takes approximately 45 minutes and costs ~5GBP although usually a discount is available if you have some proof that you have flown that day (e.g. boarding card etc). From Glasgow Central station a taxi to the West End costs ~5GBP.

From Edinburgh Airport there is a bus service Airlink 100 which goes to Edinburgh City Centre and terminates near the Waverley railway station. From Waverley a train to Glasgow Queen Street takes approximately 50 minutes and cost ~10GBP. Alternatively, there is a bus service from Edinburgh to Glasgow Buchanan Street Bus Station. From Queen Street or Buchanan Street station you can catch the subway or a taxi to the West End.

The map of the underground can be found here. Take Buchanan Street underground (next to Queen Street rail station) or St Enoch underground (next to Glasgow Central Station) to Hillhead underground to go to the University. The nearest underground to The Heritage Hotel and the Albion Hotel is Kelvinbridge. The nearest underground to the Hilton Glasgow Grosvenor and the Belhaven Hotel is Hillhead. The nearest underground to the Argyll Hotel, Argyll Guest House, Kelvingrove Hotel, Albion Hotel and Sandyford Hotel is Kelvinhall.
